Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the One who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers DO make a difference! – Max Lucado.

This last month in Romania was amazing and I really learned so much about Prayer and the true power behind it! We started everyday with 2 HOURS of intercession for every area of our lives and the ministry of Hope Church. The question I have asked myself and I know others ask too is…Why do we Pray?– God knows everything already anyway. He is almighty, sovereign, and in control of all things. What could we possibly add to His wisdom with our feeble attempts at prayer?  Over the past month I have learned these truths about why we pray.

First , we pray because we are God’s children, and He loves to hear from us.

– Zephaniah 3:17 For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness.   With his love, he will calm all your fears.  He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.

Second, we pray because it deepens our trust in God.

-Philippians 4:6-7  Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Third, we pray because it causes us to depend on God.

-Isaiah 40:26 Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another,  calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.

Fourth, we pray because it gives us the chance to express ourselves completely to the Lord.

-Psalm 62:8 O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

Fifth, we pray because our prayers move the heart of God.

-James 4:2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.

Sixth, we pray because it’s an amazing way that we get to be involved with what God is already doing in our world.

-1 Thessalonians 5:25 Dear brothers and sisters, Pray for us.

I know we are all busy and have crazy days but I want to encourage you! Take just 10 minutes out of your day and talk to Papa. I have had a rough start to my time here in Bulgaria. So I have started my day with 10 minutes praying for God to open my heart and show me the Bulgaria He sees, and how I can show the beautiful country and the people here His love! Starting my day on my knees talking with Papa has helped shift my mind.

At the beginning of the month in Romania that two hours felt like an eternity but by the end of the month I didn’t want the two hours to end! Just start small and your time with the Lord will be so sweet you won’t want it to end!
