Have you ever known something was going to be crazy and then done it anyway? As you were doing it did you question yourself at all, or did you just get swept up in the moment? This happened to me last week. You see, we are currently in Georgia (the country) and we are in a ministry month called ATL (Ask The Lord). Essentially this means that we have no direct host to tell us what to do for ministry each day, instead we ask the Lord and allow him to direct our path. Part of what we get to pray through is where in the country we feel the Lord wants to take us. After we had prayed and received direction for the month the crazy idea was sparked and put in place.
Essentially what happened was we had been looking for an affordable place to stay in the small town of Kobuleti on the Black Sea. We were looking all over Air B and B, and HostelWorld and we were coming back with little to no good affordable options. Jump to the night before we were supposed to leave for Kobuleti and we still had no place booked to stay. I asked my team to ask the Lord for more clear direction, were we supposed to stay in Tbilisi (the capital) or go? We prayed and each of us got an answer. My whole team said they felt like the Lord was calling us to go. I was the only one who felt like we should stay. The more I look back on that night I feel as if I was 100% talking out of my fear of the unknown rather than hearing from the Lord.
So the next morning we got up, checked out of the air B and B we were staying at and headed to the bus station. Mind you we didn’t have bus tickets booked or really anything planned. We arrived to the station and find out that the bus we had wanted to take was full but there was a bus three hours later that we could book… MOMENT OF TRUTH… this was the point of no return. We booked the tickets. Still no place to stay and now we would not be arriving in Kobuleti until 10 pm which didn’t really give us time to walk around and find a place. The planner inside of me was screaming “THIS IS A BAD IDEA, Jenny you are leading your team into a reckless decision! This is crazy!” But there was that still small voice telling me, Jenny just trust me, trust that you and your team heard me correctly. We boarded the bus trusting that the Lord would come through to provide. We knew that we had heard the Lord tell us to “go”, so we were trusting that in our obedience he would bless us.
Before boarding the bus I had contacted 2 Air B and B hosts hoping at least one of them would respond to me. No one responded. 9 pm rolls around and I start looking for a place, any place that might have room, praying and asking the Lord for some kind of direction. Then it hits me…. Jenny you have not looked at Booking.com (which was the site we used a lot to book debrief locations as logistics coordinators). How could I have forgotten to check there? I get on the site and within 20 minutes we have this super cute, really nice place for us to go to. Little did we know that this place would be more than perfect for us. It was an 8 minute walk from the bus station, we each got our own bed, we had separate rooms and bathrooms for the guys and gals, there are the comfiest couches in the living room, and a fully equipped kitchen.
Had we not been obedient to go and run into the wild unknown, to trust the Lord to provide we would not have found this gem within our budget. It was one of those rooms that was highly discounted because it was a last minute booking. God is a good Dad and has good gifts for His kids. He even allowed us to be able to afford staying there for the rest of the time. The owner is allowing us to stay there for the discounted rate for the rest of our trip. God loves us and wants to bless us in our obedience to Him. He gave us the opportunity to trust him fully, and as soon as we said “yes” He gave us all overwhelming peace and joy about going on this wild adventure with him. God just asks us to say yes to living on the edge for his glory.
So will you say “yes”?
