What game do you want to play with me God?

Month 3 here we go! Philippines is nothing less than amazing. I’ve really enjoyed the culture here- the people are so welcoming and loving! Our team is truly blessed to have worked with two world race alumni Leah and Meagan, along with Daniel and Natalie from the states! Their ministry Streetlight– is straight up moving with the Holy Spirit. Their love, dedication and patience with the children is so inspiring. The staff there are one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met- saying goodbye wasn’t easy and I was upset that I had to.

While at Streetlight one of the boys asked me to play Chess. I haven’t played since I was like ten -like riding a bike- it comes back to you. A couple days later when Stefanie led our team-time, she asked the question – “Ask God what game He wants to play with you?” While meditating and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the answer to this question- Chess came to my mind almost immediately. Of course I was skeptical- “it’s just because you just played it” I told myself. So I sat listening and He whispered CHESS!

Ok Lord- why? This simple one-word question opened up multiple answers. He revealed to me that he was delighted that I played with one of His sons and in that – I was a vessel used for His love to show. I didn’t just play one game- but multiple games daily (my brain was fried to say the least). He gave me the patience to say a joyful yes every time I was asked.

In chess the main objective is to protect your King in the midst of a battle. To protect the King- aka my relationship with God. – I need to stay focused on Him. There is a spiritual battle going on which can distract you from your King. This is all the pieces plotting and moving to kill your King (the enemy).

The pieces of chess know their identity– a pawn is a pawn and can only move the way it’s created to be, a rook is a rook.. etc. When you know who you are- you’re able to live out the game of life to the fullest and walk in freedom! I think of myself as a pawn, small and not the most powerful BUT when a pawn is patient and takes one-step at a time… it reaches the other side and is crowned a QUEEN.

Who knew so much could be learned from the game of chess? So quiet your minds, invite the Holy Spirit to join and ask God, “ What game do you wish to play with me”.

Love and miss you all!
