This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats mountains down.
TIME
Time is a tricky thing here on earth. Picture yourself a year ago- are you where you want to be now? I’m not just talking about career wise- think deeper. If you’re shaking your head no- well why not? Most likely because you’ve assumed you’d have more time to get things done. “I’ll do it tomorrow- or later” is a typical response to most of my responsibilities. I’ll research sleeping bags for my trip tomorrow. I’ll call that friend who’s been on my heart tomorrow. I’ll read the bible later. I’ll write my BLOG later. Before you know it in a blink of an eye the days start to pass- which turns into weeks- into months-into years.
I believe that this is one of the GREASTEST tools the enemy uses. Why? Because we aren’t promised tomorrow- God gives us the gift of now- the present- and it truly is just that- a present. The enemy wants you to concentrate on your “life” and the everyday struggles’ that can come with it. He puts fear into our minds to distracted, confused, frighten and almost forget why God created us in the first place – to love and glorify Him and love one another. We are all on this journey together, so enjoy the now and stop spending time beating up your past and daydreaming about your future.
You see this life on earth is really just the journey- our destination is heaven. The punk doesn’t want you to live like you’re dying- he wants you to think you have all the time in the world. The truth of the matter is we don’t….. yet. In heaven, time is eternal- without end and without beginning. I want you to stop and really think about that. No seriously take a second and reflect on that.
WHOA right!?!? Talk about a mind trip Do you want to work towards things that will eventually expire or something that is everlasting?
When you start to keep that in the focus of everyday tasks- you might find yourself doing things differently. Maybe it is not losing your temper when someone cuts you off on the highway- or when your toddler spills all of their cheerios on the beige carpet making it impossible to find each one. Maybe it’s taking more time in the day to quiet your mind and listen to His voice. Maybe looking someone in the eye and truly give them a heartfelt smile? Maybe letting go of grudges and truly forgiving someone who did you wrong? I promise if you do make the effort you will experience more peace and joy.
What is your goal in life? Mine personally is HEAVEN. Sure I want to get married, have children, successful career and own a home etc. Those are all wonderful blessings God gives us but I’d be thinking short-term. Don’t you see all these beautiful things have an expiration date. If you’re lucky there will come a time when you will achieve that goal- but then what- will you than be happy and enjoy the moment? Nothing is ever promised, we never know when the Lord will call us home. I challenge you to refocus your goals in life to something that is unending- Him and His glorious Kingdom.
