We as humans don’t like to be dry. Millions of dollars are spent on lotions that moisturize our skin, shampoo that prevents our hair from dryness and lip balm that keeps our lips nourished. When something is dry it is shriveled, used and dying. Think about nature when leaves die they wither and dry up. Crops in a drought won’t produce the product needed. When your eyes are dry- you can’t see. When you’re dehydrated and don’t consume water what happens? Dryness means death.
So often we focus on our flesh but what about your spiritual dryness? Sometimes I find myself dried up and consumed in the world. I forget that in order for the potter to mold me- I have to remain wet. If I don’t I will dry up and slowly but surely my spirit becomes weaker and weaker- heading towards death.
It comes down to where your roots are planted. Are you rooted by the streams of life? Are you watering your spirit? Are you spending time reading the Word of God? What kind of music are you listening too.. is it speaking life and edifying you? What type of movies do you watch.. is it uplifting and have a positive message? Be careful what you let enter your mind..it can be a dam blocking the streams of truth, love and life into you. It’s not obvious but it happens very subtly.
Psalms 1:3
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers.
This passage is so powerful. It teaches us that when you stay rooted and grounded in His love you will have what you need to live.. truly live in freedom. That when your only concern is to stay thirsty and drink up His goodness- you will be successful in whatever you do. You will find that peace and happiness that you’ve been seeking.. that void is filled!
So get thirsty. Remind yourself that this life is a gift! Like putting on lotion daily, get in the habit of recognizing the thirst of your spirit. Take care of it daily and make sure it stays wet, so that He can shape you into the person that you’ve always been created to be. Don’t let the comforts and distractions of this world dry you up!
Stay thirsty my friends.
