Pizza, Oreos, soda and Kung Fu Panda…that is all it took to make the dreams and prayers of 20 orphans come true.
While in India my team and I had the amazing blessing of working with several different children’s homes. At one of the homes we feel so in love with the children there, and their love for the Lord, that we decided we wanted to do something special for them.
A group of us decided to have a pizza and movie party for them…thinking what child doesn’t love pizza and a movie?!? We talked with our ministry contact and worked out a time that we could hold this special event and figured out all the small details.
One the day of the party we walked into the children’s home greeted by huge smiles and lots of excitement. I didn’t really understand it completely at first. I thought that these children were just excited to see us and spend time together. They were definitely excited about us being there but even more than that they were excited that God had answers even their smallest and, what seemed to be, silliest of prayers. In talking with the owner of the children’s home I found out that most of those children had never tasted pizza and had been asking him when they could finally have some (many asking for it on their birthdays). Unfortunately the owner could barely afford to feed all 20 children the 3 simple meals a day they needed, much less pizza (an uncommon and more expensive food in India). He told me that they had been praying and dreaming about eating pizza for weeks and that on that day we had made there dreams come true.
Really?? We had made the dreams of 20 children come true?? Who doesn’t want to make children’s dreams come true?…especially when it is something as simple as pizza!
How appropriate that it made me think of a quote by Mother Theresa…”We can do not great things, just small things with great LOVE. It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into doing it”. We did nothing great in bringing these children pizza and watching a movie with them….it didn’t cost us much… .there wasn’t much time spent in planning the event….we just thought it would be something they would enjoy, so we did it. What compelled us to do this was our Love….our love for these children and our love for the Lord. Out of that love the dreams and prayers of 20 beautiful Indian children came true. I couldn’t be more blessed to be a part of making that happen!
