If I was a sunflower I would follow the sun

I would want to be great at it to show the other sunflowers how it’s done

The Sun would give me all the nutrients I need to grow

And all of the things I would want the other sunflowers to know

During the day the Sun would shine off my peddles so bright

And during the night the Sun reflects off the moon to remind me its not out of site.

If I was a sunflower the seeds I’d keep would be few

I would feed the birds with broken wings because they get hungry too

I would ask the sun to let me grow wherever it needs

And I would find myself in the garbage dump where the green grass recedes

I’ll ask ” why did you place me beside the thorn ad the weed

They laugh and say I’m different because the sun is all I need”

The sun will say ” I’ve given you strong roots keep growing with all your might

Even the plants in the dump deserve to know what sunshine feels like ”

If I was a sunflower I would follow the sun

And I would grow beside others so I wouldn’t be the only one

Because of the sun’s rays I would grow up big and tall

So I could protect the little flowers under me when rain drops would fall

Somedays I would became tired I would start to turn away

But the light of the sun would pull me back and say

“Keep your peddles faced towards the light and the feeling of me

Because when it’s your time to die you will come and spend eternity

With me in the sun ”
