Death is swallowed up in victory. O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting ? 1 Corinthians 15:55

Finding the meaning of unsung this month was a lot different from what I had previously thought it meant.
Looking for the stories that aren’t being told is what I was fired up to do. Finding the people that go to great lengths for good causes without recognition was my understanding of this term.
Very quickly my life was turned upside down when I went looking for what was unsung in these people’s lives.
What song are they not singing?
And I have come to the conclusion that its the song of their lives that has been left unsung and the way they live their lives now (the song they sing ) is not their own.
The story that is being unsung is the one they chose not to have

They have abandoned the many ways their lives could have gone and the many way their stories could have been told to tell a greater story and to sing a greater song.
If these unsung heroes had chosen to keep singing their song they could very well be living the life of…

North American teaching jobs
A life of Owning a thriving business
Being a Famous singer/song writer
Working as Lawyers and professors
A life where everything is a business write off and you have 50$ a day to spend on food
I life without persecution, threats and abandonment from family
The warmth of the  California sun and a comfortable home for your children
A life of possible marriage and kids and a dog
Retirement savings plans and being close to family
Being able to choose the things you want, like and feel comfortable doing
A life of reaching your future goals and accomplishments

But all that changes when you choose to stop singing your song and go unsung

They have chosen to abandon the story line their lives should have followed to all start singing the same song. It is not for me to tell the stories that are unsung to these beautiful people because they are the stories they have decided don’t matter to them. It’s the song that their lives are now singing that are worth sharing and the unsung ones are better left unsung.
To be an unsung hero it’s not about doing as much as you can without the public eye finding out although it is very humbling to see those situations everywhere I go. But to be a unsung hero is to move forward letting your past and what could have been go unsung and unwritten. These heroes look forward at the new life they have to live and the purpose that drives it. They now sing about the freedom and redemption of Jesus Christ rather than their freedom to live their lives whatever way they please.
The sound of  giving everything they have away sounds so much sweeter than the sound of a juicy pay cheque.

The sound of a Father in heaven who loves you unconditionally sounds sweeter than trying to get the world to love And approve of you.

The sound of having everything you need right in your heart sounds sweeter than the materials that drive people to depression, worry and anxiety.

The sound of persecution, broken sticks over backs and mocking sounds better then the brokenness of not knowing the freedom and life that comes through Jesus Christ.

These people have found the sweeter song here in Nepal and it is bringing freedom to the orphaned, widowed, trafficked, abused, homeless, hopeless and healing to the blind eyes, deaf ears, lame limbs and broken hearts.
This blog is dedicated to the unsung heroes I have met this month and have helped me see the sweeter song. Thank you for choosing to leave your past life unsung and for chasing after a sweeter song.
