About 5 years ago, in my freshman Spanish class I saw a girl in a purple dress with a hummingbird tattoo and knew that we were destined to be the best of friends.
Sometimes in life you just have that feeling.
Little did I know, that 5 years and hundreds of cups of black coffee, hugs, and tears later I would be looking back on our friendship and typing a blog about how this woman has changed my view on love, life, friendship, Jesus, and the world around me as I prepare to see 11 countries in 11 months.
It is hard to put into words all that encompasses Chassey, as she is so beautifully unique that there isn't a word in the dictionary that could truly define her.
The few that come to mind are:
Passion, Moxie, Freedom, Spirited, Magnetic, Electric, Colorful, and Sincere.
She and I have both experienced our fair share of life's heartaches, break ups, rejections, failures, mistakes, and let downs. We have battled with family issues, friendship woes, and the overall heartache that life can bring. Despite the grey, the ick, and the ugly, Chassey's nature has always been much like a sunflower… to always seek the light. One of our first conversations was about her love for the flower.
She said it represented all that was good in the world, and she felt like Jesus would want us to love like that.
… always seek out the light.
The older I have gotten and the more that I have experienced, the more I see the simplicity of this logic unfolding in my life. Chassey has been a mover and a shaker in my life, because she is free. She shares her heart with the world around her, and doesn't let painful experiences harden her. She delights in the little things, and finds amusement in the details most people take for granted. Being around her, you want to love more sincerely and be more open to what the world has to offer.
Chassey Foster, you are beautiful soul and I am blessed to know you. Thank you for being you. Happy Birthday month! Love you my soul sister!
