Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog where I officially announce my first complete week of ministry! This week has been such a fun, laughing, spirit filled time! I’d like to share with you all a few specific events that resonated with me a lot and really spoke to my heart.
In the first event, our team and I had gone into the communities to pray for the families and women of Transforma. This was an incredible and shocking experience as we saw how little these families had yet the joy they had was undeniable. Their faces radiated with excitement and happiness as they shared testimonies, prayer requests, and miracles they’ve witnessed. Despite their living circumstances they always found a way to smile and give thanks to God for what they did have.
At a separate time during the week, our team and I were discussing on how we could be more like Christ through serving, prayer, or encouragement on the Race and in life with each other. As we spoke out ideas, a specific topic that already had been mentioned various times came up; listening to the voice of God. Hearing the voice of God, can be really difficult if we aren’t tuned to the Spirit. Our minds and hearts can become easily distracted and not be attentive to know when God is truly speaking. In the morning one of my teammate’s found our bag full of bananas with tiny spiders all over it. She quickly cleaned it and told us to be cautious when we decided to eat a banana. In that evening as we sat talking on how to listen to the voice of God, my teammate brought up a discussion we had at training camp. In a brief summary, the speaker shared a story of a time where a mother had brought her daughter to hear him preach and she had mentioned to her mother, that if the speaker would say their code word- then she would believe in God. Well, in the middle of his speech, he had this specific phrase on his mind and didn’t quite understand why. He then told everyone he kept hearing the word Banana Spider. As crazy as it sounded that was the code the girl had told her mom she would believe in God if she heard. AND… that was the message my teammate immediately thought of as we sat talking about the voice of God, and our banana spiders from that morning! Although, in the actual event it took us a couple minutes to figure out what was going on, the realness of how that message could have been prophesied over us without even knowing was so crazy! During those few minutes we were trying to figure everything out, I was at a complete lost as I couldn’t recall that message. However, even in that my heart knew so well that the Spirit of God had just walked in. Everyone around me, had chills and a face of shock in what had just been discovered. Even as confused as I was for a moment my heart immediately prompted me into wanting to cry from the emotions I saw and felt. God really used that night for us all in having a night of breakthrough and an encounter with the Spirit.
In the last event that I’d like to share with you all is that, I have found a small change of waking up early to be in the Word to be one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done on the race. This small change has prompted me in getting to know more of who God is through His Word and also see my heart being filled with joy and compassion for God’s people.
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
