Here’s the sentence I never thought I’d get to write…I’m in Africa right now! Swaziland to be exact. That’s right….after 96 hours of traveling and an awesome 8 hour layover in London, we’ve arrived! I hate to burst any bubbles out there, but it’s not exactly “The Lion King” scenery as of yet! Soon, though we hope! We met up with the January team and are in training with them this first week. They have been such an encouragement to us already. Altogether there are about 80 crazy 20 to 30-something year olds living in a house/tenting outside who are completely in love with Jesus and dreaming about what the next year with Him will be like. I’m loving it!
I’ll share one story with you, and then go, promising that soon I will post some pictures to break up the monotony of typing! So, an older African man and a younger lady showed up today during our lecture time. At the first break, a few of us went to greet them. It turns out that they were lost and thought they were going to a pastor conference. They had the dates and the place wrong, but God had a plan. They figured out shortly after that a room full of white Americans was probably not their pastor conference, but they figured out we were Christians and decided to stick around. We invited them back to the house for lunch and they told us about their lives. They even sat in on our afternoon lectures. I was struck by a few things that have left me humbled. They never seemed upset that their plans were changed and that they had gotten a few minor details wrong, which altered the schedule for their whole day! They just went with it and even said that it must be a divine appointment that they found us. Also, the older gentleman kept taking notes…even when it was simply one of the younger guys from the January team telling us how to give a testimony! He was so obviously humble and didn’t think twice about learning from these random American youth. He just smiled and wrote feverishly, trying to take it all in. Needless to say, I was blessed by this man. How many times have I opted out of listening to God’s word being preahced or talking about Him with others to go and do something less significant? I have so much to learn about becoming a student of the world, but this man seems to be doing alright in that area.
Thank You Lord, for your servant who is so hungry for you that he will seek Your truth, no matter where or how it comes to him. Fill me with that hunger too, Father.
