We have finally made it to Nicaragua. After a 4 day trip around the back side of the world we are officially in Latin America and, I think I love it! Unfortunately, I should have paid closer attention when Mrs. Cochrane tried to teach me Spanish. If only everything to be learned could be put into a song…Oh well, I guess I will just have to write them! In order to refresh or, in my case, teach the 7 of us in Granada Spanish we have made lists. We have labeled, charted, and listed everything we can think to ask or talk about. It was fun making all the signs and we wrote them in English also for our Nica friends who are not so good at English. Please pray for our language barrier this month. We really like talking with our new friends and don’t want our different languages to be a hinderance.

Granada is a beautiful town and I am so excited to be here for the month. We are working with the new AIM base located here while the rest of our group is on the other side of the country doing disaster relief. The seven of us that stayed behind get the privilege of being the first mission team to come. We get to help the team here get their feet under them for ministry.
We are tenting inside an old barn on the newly acquired property of the ministry here. It is right on the line between the haves and the have nots. They are calling the ministry “el puente” the bridge. It is an exciting time to be in Granada. There is a lot going on among these people both Nica’s and gringo’s. Witchcraft is widespread and prostitution is common. There is a 49% unemployment rate and most of the locals do not speak any english.

On a selfish note pray that we will all sleep well. We are in tents, which is nice to have our own space, but it gets hot at night inside them. We are also in an old barn where lots of other “critters” lived before us, so we tend to hear little bumps in the night. So far no spiders from me, Yes Lord let that be; but Katey had a little incident the other night. Thank you Lord for 3 men who are willing to kill all our creepy crawly things.
