I want to share with you all a fantastic resource…My brother-in-law has written a book entitled: “At Home With God”. The book is a tool for families who are searching for how to invite God into their everyday lives but haven’t found the time to figure out their own routine. The book walks through the routines that are followed in their home such as; evening prayer time, Opening & Closing of Sabbaths, & celebrating festivals throughout the seasons of a year. Everything in the book has been tried, either in individual homes or as a community, here in the DC metro area.
I encourage singles & families alike to get this resource & use it in your everyday lives. Invite friends over & go through a Sabbath liturgy together…allow yourselves the time to find God in the everyday & to find new fellowship & community too. Challenge yourselves to get real & authentic with one another. Watch as the Lord draws your hearts together…as you open your home & your heart to His relationships. We have been blessed to see authentic community come around us as we opened our home & invited others to participate with us in what God was taking us through.
The book is great for the kids too. I have seen children in our community who could barely sit still at dinner, sit eagerly anticipating their opportunity to light the candle, share the spices, or pour the overflowing cup. I have seen a child’s creativity come to life as they have been challenged to “pray in color”, a prayer activity found in the book. I have sat in some of the sweetest prayer times I have ever experienced, as the little children thank God for the blessings they recognize in their own lives & as they pray for those hurting around the world & in their own community.
Our community is continually expanding the idea found in the story of the Good Samaritan as we seek God’s answer to “who is my neighbor?” He answers through opening doors to serve the homeless & in need in our area; single mothers; hurting children who need a friend; creating safe places for people to reveal their own personal brokenness. This book helps guide as we follow in the Lord’s steps of service.
Take the time to look at the book; you can find it on Amazon.com & it even gives you the opportunity to browse a few of the pages online. You will not regret getting this book…it will be an essential tool in your tool belt as you personally seek to follow & lead your families in the ways of our Father.
