Worship has always been a major part of my life. I’ve been on several worship teams, I’ve been a traveling worship leader, I’ve always connected to God the most through worship. That being said, I thought I knew quite a bit about what worshiping God can look like.
To me, worship has always been about putting myself aside for awhile and praising God just for who He is using whatever gifts or talents I have to offer to him. Worship is humbling and strikes awe and wonder in my heart.
This month, I have been learning so much about who God says I am, and it’s starting to shift my understanding of who God is. This overflow of childlike joy and curiosity has bubbled up inside me as I learn more about my Creator. I’ve started to notice how I am worshiping God in my quiet times and throughout my day in different ways than I have ever worshiped before.
Just take a look, you must to see all these beautiful things:
You can worship God with snails.
One early morning, I was outside just enjoying being in nature and just amazed at all the beauty that was happening that morning. There were hundreds of birds flocking our yard, the sun was rising over the hills, it was brisk and calm. Then, I noticed a shell… moving. Then, there was another, and another, and another. I’ve never seen a snail in real life and here I was with a handful of them. I put them all on my hand and they arranged themselves on top of each other like this, so cute. There was so much fascination and contentment in that moment, I can’t even describe. I was running around showing everyone all my snails and sharing the excitement because God likes sharing his fascinating creations with us too.
You can worship God with Watercolors
Now, I’ve used watercolors to spend time with God before, but it’s been taken to a whole new level on the Race. Everything I’ve painted recently has some deep back story, is strongly rooted in scripture, or is some strange vision God gives me and then teaches me something really powerful through. I can’t say they are my best paintings ever, but after I’m done with a painting, I can’t help but praise God for all the ways he speaks to us, and that I get to play with beautiful colors to hear his voice.
You can worship God by stopping to smell the roses
The streets in Romania are filled with bushes and flowers galore from everyone’s yards. Every time we go somewhere, I am in my happy place because a flower is always hitting my head or brushing my ankle as we walk. Sometimes I stop to take pictures and have suspicious homeowners come out to ask what I’m doing, then we tell them about Jesus. Lately eyes have been noticing all the fine little details and colors that make up a teeny tiny flower, they are so intricate and delicate. Isn’t amazing that a God who took the time to design the details on each petal, cares SO much more for us and the details of our lives?
You can worship God by making a fool of yourself
One morning, God led me to read about how David danced naked in front of everyone and made a fool of himself, but he was just so focused on the Lord he didn’t even care. That’s how ministry with the kids at our after school program as been. Getting up on stage and going all out to worship songs, or getting more and more expressive while acting out stories and teaching lessons, or just laughing because you are trying so hard to communicate in all different languages. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen the beauty of the Lord in these lovely faces while we are doing really silly things.
You can worship God by chasing chickens
Yup. Chasing chickens. We spent a day this week visiting elderly church members and getting to hear their stories and pray with them. It was a really beautiful day. Almost every house had some chickens, or puppies, cows, pigs, cats, or all of them. We took the time at each house to give attention to the animals as well, and gosh. I get such a strong sense of heavenly peace from being around animals. I may have even held a chicken during entire prayer once because my heart was too overjoyed.
You can worship God in the mountains
Yes, that’s pretty obvious, but Romania just has mountains and hills everywhere. There’s hardly a place you can go without being able to see a glimpse of a mountain nearby. I’ve been especially taking in just how interesting it is just how bumpy hills are and how light skips over them. It’s like God just squished a ball of playdough down onto the earth. They’re so stinkin cool.
How have you been worshiping God recently? But for real. I really do want to know so that maybe I can try out those ways too, so comment below or message me! It can be anything!
