Wow. This week marks the halfway point of our journey on the World Race. That’s 5 1/2 months out traveling the world talking about Jesus, and 5 1/2 months to go. What the. That’s crazy.
To celebrate, I wanted to share a song from each month that ended up being my theme or my anthem for that month. So grab some coffee, snuggle in, pull out your to-do list for the day, and let these songs speak to you as go about your day!
MONTH 1 — Albania
The Wick
“My heart is the wick, your love is the flame, and I wanna burn for your name”
This song popped into my head as we were walking through airports on our way out of the US. It’s slowly become my theme song not only for the Race, but for my whole life. I love the analogy of the Lord burning away whatever is in me away until only the flame is left. Plus, just like wax melting, when you let God work in you, his love just kinda gets everywhere and it’s fun to play with!
MONTH 2 — Romania
Ever Be
“Free of all her guilt, rid of all her shame, known by her true name, and it’s why I sing. Your praise will ever be on my lips.”
This month was so full of freedom, peace, and SO many blessings. I learned how to play this song on my uke, and we sang in front of all kinds of different groups. Everywhere we went we were blessed by the people we met and just always had a reason to praise God.
MONTH 3 —- Bulgaria
It Is Well With My Soul – Audrey Assad Version
“…Though sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well with my soul.”
This month was a hard month of processing some deep hurts that were coming back from my past. I can so clearly remember sitting in the church late one night painting and just singing this song with tears rolling down my cheeks. Sweet memories.
MONTH 4 — Malaysia
Open Space
“My heart is an open space for you to come and have your way”
First month in Asia and life looked so different immediately. This was a month of leaving room for Jesus to come and do whatever He wanted and not ask questions. It was fruitful. It was painful. It was worth doing again.
MONTH 5 — Thailand
Daily Bread
“I wanna feel the weight of eternal rest To build the walls of freedom higher than the rest”
In Thailand, I continually felt drained no matter what I did. I HAD to get my “daily bread” with Jesus in every single day to be able to function properly. Later on discovered I had strep throat the whole month which explained so so very much!
MONTH 6 — Myanmar
Head to the Heart
“You give me faith like a child, in you my heart runs wild”
Myanmar has already taught me so much about how choosing to be joyful draws attention because most of the world doesn’t see true smiles that often. It’s so entertaining to watch everyone in a park get so amused by 8 white girls singing kids songs with actions.
That’s all for now folks! What are some songs that have been speaking to you recently?
