What does the world race mean to me? Well, it means challenge, growth, opportunity, relationship, adventure, and so much more. When I applied to this mission trip, I didn’t really think that I would get accepted.
I had talked to every significant person in my life to see if someone- just one person- would tell me that I was crazy. Lo and behold, not one person said the words that I wanted to hear, not even my ex-husband. Yes, I asked him too. I thought that surely would be a ringer for the words “your crazy Jennifer.” The Lord opened an amazing door, so I ran through it!

Fast forward a little… Training in Georgia… What a flesh burner, and I’m not talking about calories either. As sorry as I was for praying for this to happen, I sure learned a lot because of it. It felt as if I was in a bubble all by myself. My cup was half empty! My age was considerably older than the rest of my team; as a result, no one was hanging with me. The leadership “skills” I was so accustomed to was a whopping flop with this crowd as well. The facilities were of minimum availability, meaning a shower under a cold, water hose maybe every 3 days, porta-potties, no make-up, and to top it off, I developed a huge stress/fever blister on my bottom lip for the entire time at camp! I was mortified! Needless to say, my heart and mind finally accepted it.

It is now just a few weeks before we all gather together to begin what is called and considered “The World Race.” It is better than counting down the 12 days of Christmas. Gathering the necessary supplies for this crusade has been quite an undertaking in itself. Tent, sleeping bag, cooking stove, MP3 player, digital camera, hiking shoes and sandals- what are Chaco’s?-, campers underwear – 2 pair a do ya hmmm…, so I bought 3, and a backpack to carry all of my belongings in for the whole year. This backpack helps me to reflect on just a short time ago, it used to be a black garbage bag thrown over my shoulders wondering the streets, and now I will wonder all around the world.

God is so cool to have trained me on how to be homeless for years, so I can travel the world with experience. (Genesis 50:12) However, I am still nervous and very much covet your prayers. If you would like a prayer card as a reminder to pray, please email me your address so I can get it to you asap. I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a bless day and please always know who you are in Christ, because with God all things are possible to him who believes! He did it for me, and He will do it for you too.
