How can I explain my time in Thailand to paint a picture of what it was like? I don’t think I can.
It was fast… bright… exciting… It was in no doubt a sign of night life entertainment at very first glance from afar.
Let’s face it, sex sales.
On the other hand, it was heartbreaking, tragically distressing, and tear-jerking! The girls ranged from young teen to young adult.
I walked into Soi 1, a bar, where I met and purchased Pim. We paid her bar fine of 500 Baht ($15 USD) then took her to Starbucks and to get her hair done.
Amanda, AIM staff, and I then went to another bar. I hung out with her the entire time. This one was three stories high and very deep. The farther you go back and the higher you go up, the more obscene it gets. We prayer walked the entire bar, pleading the Blood of Jesus over this place.
At the entrance, there were about a dozen young girls with school uniforms on. They had numbers hanging on lanyards around their necks. They were for sale.
Each floor was probably about 4,000 square feet and had a multitude of compartment dance bars of in the sides and corners. In these were the “dirty” bars. However, they all were laced with the trashy seduction that lures people from literally all over the world.
The music was loud. It was smoky. Bright-colored lights and strobe lights blinded you. People of all races and sexes were everywhere, tipping their alcoholic beverages and laughing and talking as if they were right at home… This was the norm…
I met a girl and befriended her right away. Her name was Mil (SL ~meal). Mil was 30 years old, certainly one of the oldest there. She has 2 kids, a son 6, and a daughter 12. I could not help to wonder if she would allow her daughter to do what she is doing. I pray not, but it is customary there.
I spent the next few days training six of the World Racers in a Life Planning teaching. It was amazing. I definitely had some breakthroughs of my own. Repetition is sometimes the best teacher. Being where I was and doing what I love to do most, outreach to the extreme hurting, included into my teaching – learning.
NOON:
Back off to the Nana. This is one of the bar/prostitute districts.
Amanda and I went to three different bars that night, Soi 1, Soi 2, and Soi Cowboy. At Soi 2, we met with Noon. She is an older prostitute too. We bought a drink (coke) so we could hang out and talk with her.
About 10 minutes into our conversation, the Holy Spirit prompted me to say something to Noon that would change her life. As she looked into my eyes, I said, “You are SO BEAUTIFUL!” She immediately started crying. Tears just streamed uncontrollably down her face. This provoked me to say more. I said a quick and quiet prayer, “help Lord.” I poured into her my testimony and then the love of Jesus Christ, while the whole time telling her how beautiful she is. I told her how much Jesus loves her, more than any man in this bar or from her past life.
I watched Noon’s face as she watched the younger girls playing with an American guy that she had been with the night before. It broke my heart to no end. I could see the rejection written all over her face. I felt — I have felt her pain.
Jim, who runs The Well, was there to plant seeds of his facility, where should could receive help. Here, they help prostitutes of all ages work trades and more importantly, how to have a loving relationship with Jesus Christ.
WI:
Then, I met Wi (SL ~Ree). This girl totally captured my heart. I was not expecting to meet her. It was truly a divine appointment. I was there to meet Benz, which I did, but I wasn’t clicking with her.
Wi is the cutest little girl I have ever met. She has such a cute innocent voice. She didn’t look full-blooded Asian. She came and sat behind me, so I turned and began to chat with her. Her English was pretty good.
I asked her if she had ever met a Christian to which she responded, “I know Buddha.” I obviously took this a resounding YES. Can you say OPEN DOOR?
Anyone who knows me, knows that I do not play around. I told her that I used to do what she did, prostitution, but I met a man named Jesus. I told her that He is a gentleman, one who does not lie, cheat, steal, or use others, especially for their body.
I told her about how good He is and how much He loves her. I told her about Him dying for her b/c He loves her. I told her until I knew she understood that He was not one you could visually see, you just simply have to believe in your mind and your heart. She totally got it.
I asked her to repeat after me some words; I just had to hear her say them. I did not think that I would see the fruit of what happened next. Oh yeah…. The words…. “I love Jesus.”
After repeating them one time, her countenance changed. She lit up and begun to say again and again then louder and louder, “I LOVE JESUS!!!!” She was saying it from within the depths of her heart and her soul. It took my breath away. I was in awe of God!
I sat with her for a while just talking about Jesus. It fed my soul. She would randomly scream and throw up her hands, “I LOVE JESUS!”
Note the girl behind the sign:
It was time to leave. I didn’t want to go. Or at least, I wanted to take Wi with me. I kept wrapping my arms around her, hugging her and pleading the Blood over her.
THEN, to my surprise, she said THE Words in the form of a question that would change my life forever. It gave me such an inspired look into the Scriptures!!! Are you ready?
Here is what she asked: “Will you write Jesus’ name in my hand?” Then she turned over her hand — palm up. OMG!! Can I get an AMEN somebody? Just like Jesus has her name written in the palm of His hand. THIS WAS A HOLY SPIRIT MOMENT!!!
Oh there is soooo much I could write and tell you. It was all so amazing. Words just can not do it justice.
Here is a list of things I was able to do with the prostitutes:
- Paid Bar fines (several)
- Many dinners and lunches
- Hair styles
- Pedicures
- Massages
- Movies
- Starbucks
- Shopping
- The Park
- Leave $$$ to pay more bar fines
On the flip side of all this, here are some pictures of some people making a huge difference in Bangkok. There are not a lot of Christians, but there sure is some powerful ones!
Over looking Bangkok. Having 13 million people, it is the largest city I have ever been turned lose in.
Could you not eat him up!!
My guide on the second day in Thailand… when I got lost… hmmm…
My waiter, Tha. I ate at this amazing place 6 days straight. It cost about $1.50 a dinner.
A young Thai boy at the Baptist School of Theology.
This is Oy. She is a prostitute in Soi 1 bar.
Pim and Me at a HUGE park! I bought her for the entire day!!!!
Pim again. She is soooooooooo precious. She is who I spent most of my time with.
I met so many beautiful young women. They have real faces and real names. I will never forget my experience in Thailand.
I look forward to when the Lord takes me back there!!! Out of the four countries I have been to, Thailand is the one I KNOW I will go back to some day!
Thank you to all my friends, family, supporters, and prayer partners for making this possible!
