I hope to keep saying YES!
I’ve been sharing a lot about the World Race with people I meet. I share it at work, in my community, at church. And it has been wonderful. There are so many people interested in the program, in the journey, in the ability to just pick up and leave, to follow where God calls, to say no to the norm and YES to God. I get asked many questions of course and just answer the best I can. And the response has surprised me. There have been those who I thought would be eager to support who haven’t, and those I didn’t even know who immediately became financial and prayer partners.
But one of the overall phrases I hear is, “It is a great time in your life to do this”. Huh? I know nothing is really meant by this statement, but it got me thinking. Isn’t it always a great time to be a servant for God? Yes, I’m single, but I do have family and friends I love. Yes, I may not be at the top of a business ladder, but I absolutely love my job and the people I work with. Yes, I am young, but that doesn’t mean life is simple.
When asked by the young rich man, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 10:21-22). Jesus didn’t say, well based on your age and responsibility do this and that…He didn’t say, when it is the right time for you, do this…He said, “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me”.
Now I know there are different seasons in our lives and that God calls us to do different things as we are each part of the body with different skills and such. But I do want to make it clear that I am not saying YES to God because because it is the best time for me to go, or because it may seem easy for me to do this now, but simply because He has called me to this. He has called me to follow Him. He has called me to leave the life I know and love and follow Him…to put Him first! And I hope that no matter what season of life I am in, no matter how old I am, no matter what responsibilities I have here on earth, that I continue to say YES to God whether it be serving around the world, or showing love to someone in need right down the road.
As God moves in us, let us move in the world…even 28 years from now! What is standing in your way?
