Over the past several weeks in Antigua, our team has had amazing opportunities to serve in a variety of ministries.  We have taken part in teaching English, building houses, painting houses, painting murals, a concert, The Call – National day of Prayer, clothing distributions, helping at Higher Grounds coffee shop, working at Hermano Pedro children’s hospital.  We have also been helping out at Iglesia Del Camino. We have helped them paint a room, organized clothes for a clothing distribution, and helped with the children’s ministry at a showing of the movie Facing the Giants in Spanish.  We were also asked to paint a mural on the wall of the boys meeting room at the church.  So, we took on the new task – painting a mural at Iglesia Del Camino a couple weeks ago.  It started out with all of us helping, and then our team quickly realized that the Lord has gifted me with a “steady hand” a.k.a. I can paint a straight line.  So, I ended up coming back to the church for the next couple of days to complete the mural we had started.  Thus,  I have a new found talent – mural painting! Besides the concert I got to do at High Grounds (check out Jen-Live in Concert), this has probably been one of my favorite things that I’ve gotten to do in Antigua.  Here are some photos of the progress I made on the mural as well as the final product.

The mural is of the symbol for the boys club, kind of like Boy Scouts or Boys Brigade in the US. Their club is called Discovery Rangers.

And… the rest of the story is that the pastor of Iglesia Del Camino liked the first mural so much that he asked for a second mural be painted for the girls.  I painted the mural for the girls club, “Club Estrellas” (or Stars Club in English) on Thursday and Friday of this past week.  Here is how it looked when I finished!  I had lots of good help beginning these murals.  I had to have help tracing them on the wall with pencils before I could paint. The little girls (ages 6-12) were so excited at church this morning when they arrived in their classroom and found their room had been decorated with their club name!
