Romanian has been quite the trip. So far I have been sick for all but a few of the days (some sort of virus went through 3 of us this week…I couldn’t miss out of the fun of hanging out in the outhouse some more!), ate cow heart (yes, I am a former vegetarian), had my nails painted a glittery pink along with Holland (which started our pact of having our finger and toe nails painted the entire rest of the trip), ate sauerkraut bread, taken bucket showers, cooked with our host family’s wife and learned how to gypsy dance.
For me, it has been an up and down couple of weeks. Being sick took quite the toll on me and my spirit. A couple of the days I was ready to pack my bags and go home. But being sick had it’s blessing. As my leader Dan said, “The best way to get a team to bond?? Explosive diarrhea.” As odd as it sounds we were able to really love on (and in my case) be loved on by our team and just be there in our times of need. One example of this is when I had the virus that went through our team, Beks stayed back with me while the rest of our team went fishing. At one point I was laying out in the yard getting some fresh air after a rough stint in Roberta (our outhouse) and Beks came out and immediately started praying for me. What an example of a Christ like sister! In a moment of incredible need, she was there to lift my spirit. THAT is what community living is.
I think my favorite moments in Romania have been the times when we cook with our pastor’s wife. Regardless of the fact that we don’t konw Romanian or gypsy and she doesn’t konw English, we have the best time. I have loved just spending time with her, learning how to cook her way (and getting another amazing cake recipe!), and just being with her. It’s funny how the simpliest tasks can be the most meaningful.
Here is how you can be praying for us during our last week of ministry in our village.
*We’ll be working in the school teaching English and putting on more bible studies as well as putting on a spa day for the women.
*Overall health for our team…
*For the rest of my funds to come in…I still need about $1,300.
*Travel from our village to Brasov as well as travel for our coaches, Chuck and Selena, and other racers going to the Awakening.
Thank you for all of the prayers thus far and for all of the encouraging comments and emails! I love you all and miss you!
