Written 7/1

This is something I at which I have never been very well versed. I like to get things accomplished. Finish the task. Check things off my list. None of that has been part of my first two days on the World Race.

The first 72 hours of the world race has been full of waiting. Four planes, five airports with a total of 20 hours of layovers, three buses (totaling 16 1/2 hours travel), one hotel room (because you can’t sleep in the bus station) and only one cup of coffee.

Now don’t get me wrong, I had no misconceptions that the World Race would be like this. Long hard traveling days filled with lugging your 48lb. pack all over the country. But I am quickly learning the valuable lesson of waiting well. And learning to nap anywhere. Learning to make a book last, instead of reading it just to finish. Exploring new music. And having good conversations with new friends.

My favorite time so far, has been the time our 14 hour bus ride from Cancun to Villahermosa, Mexico has spent driving along the Gulf of Mexico. (I am currently writing this as we are crossing a large bridge over an inlet along the gulf, and are surrounded on both sides by water.)

I am learning to observe and ingest the sites, soak in the culture of the small towns of Mexico from my bus window. Since boarding this bus this morning I am even more eager to reach our destination of Palenque.

I am also waiting for the reality of the world race to hit me. Although I’m not sure when that will happen. I’ll keep waiting though. And until then, take it one day at a time.

Since arriving in Palenque, it has been a sweet time of fellowshipping with each other and with God. Palenque and it’s surroundings are beautiful, and remind you of the creator at every turn. It is a good place to acclimate to all the world race lifestyle. But more on that later…
