This month is all squad month, meaning our entire squad does our ministry together (last month was just our teams of 5-7 people). We split our squad into two groups. Group A has two teams and Group B has three. My team is in Group B.
This morning, though, because of different circumstances, we (Group B) set out for ministry with 10 people, which is less than two teams. We didn’t have any translators and we were asked to either give a message to the kids or play with them.
We obviously decided to play with them since none of us knew enough Spanish to serve as a translator. And it ended up being my favorite day of ministry so far.
We started off playing Run and Scream (or “Correr y AHHH”), which is a game where kids, well, run and scream. It’s always a favorite.
Then we decided to do arts and crafts. While we were making bracelets for the kids, the girls decorated our hair with flowers.
Side note: At home I frequently wore a bow or flower in my hair. I decided not to bring any on the Race and began to regret it because I wanted that to still be part of me. However, God’s given me REAL flowers every day that I’m able to accent my hair with, which is WAY cooler than fake flowers.
We weren’t able to say a lot to the kids, but I get like we got really close. They also taught us more basic Spanish to broaden our vocabulary.
There were a lot of laughs and smiles, but ultimately there was a lot of Jesus. They say “actions speak louder than words”, and today I truly believe they did. We were able to hold kids and hug kids and make memories with kids and love kids. Thanks, God, for shining in nonverbal, yet obvious ways.
Ways to Pray:
• There’s been a lot of Spiritual Warfare. Whether it’s thoughts, sickness, disinterest, or discouragement, our entire squad is facing it somehow. Please pray against it.
• We met our second host, Lauren, when she arrive yesterday. She’ll be with us the next two weeks, and got us really excited for the rest of our time in Nicaragua.
• We just found out what our ministry will be next month. Please pray for presentness, that our minds and hearts will continue to be present with the people we’re ministering to here.
