This month, we had all our adventure days at the beginning of the month, so we’ve only had a few days of ministry so far. Here’s a little glimpse at what I’m doing:

A year and a half ago I really wanted an ESL certification,
even though I knew I didn’t want to be a teacher.

These past few months I have been able to use that training
in so many ways teaching English to Spanish speakers.

But today, I was able to teach English (with a tiny help from Google Translate)
to people whose language I didn’t speak. And it was phenomenal.

Yesterday we passed by a coffee shop that
we have walked past several times,
but this time one of our teammates went back
to ask if they had wifi.

She stood outside talking to the owner
for a bit while we watched from afar.

A few minutes later our teammate told us that
the lady insisted we come in for “just 10 minutes”
for iced coffee drinks on the house.

We did, and we were further surprised
by her generosity of ice water to go with our coffee.

As we were walking away from this encounter,
the three of us discussed our experience.

As friendly as our hostess was, there was just
something unsettling about it.
So I’m asking you to pray with me over this lady and her coffee shop,
that the seed we planted in our conversation would
spark something in her and her business.

English class this morning.
We learned for a solid 3 hours because
these adults are so, so eager to learn.

It’s a very different experience teaching ESL
to adults than it is to teach children.
The past few months I’ve only been able
to teach the basics of English.
But now, we’re in the advanced stages of learning,
and for these refugees, English is a matter of survival.

Please join me in praying for these people.
Yes, they are refugees, but they are people just like you and me.
A lot of them are from middle- to upper-middle-class
communities who have been chased
out of their homes because of ISIS.
