In just five short months from now, I will embark on the "World Race" with a group of young people I have yet to meet. We will visit eleven different countries on three continents before our return to the United States in December 2013. The planned route includes South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, India, Nepal (this is the country I'm most excited about visiting), Thailand (can't wait to taste legit pad thai), Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Moldova, and Romania.

It is my hope that this trip will be a time of spiritual and emotional growth for me and that I would truly make a positive difference in this world through acts of service and compassion.

This summer I've been reading a book about Mother Teresa who lived and worked most of her life in India. She once said, ‘We are not doing social work; this is God’s work. Because whatever we do to the least of my brothers—that is Jesus’ saying—you do to me. So our work is, ‘I was hungry, you gave me to eat. I was thirsty, you gave me to drink. I was naked, you clothed me. I was homeless, you took me in.’”

I'm no Mother Teresa, but I hope to do God's work around the world in 2013 and also right here in Iowa until then.
