So yesterday, my team and I went out to Heredia because its our off day. We had been told by AIM to go out as a group and do some listening prayer to see where the Holy Spirit would want to lead us. So we did just that and God gave three of the six people on my team the word park. I felt pretty disappointed that I didn’t hear anything, but really excited that my three teammates had all heard the same thing. We walked to a park, but my teammate Jordie really felt like we needed to go to Heredia park instead. So we followed the Spirit there. There was a woman begging in the street on our way to Heredia park, and Erin and Victoria really felt like they needed to pray for her. We stopped for a moment while Victoria, Erin, and Jordan prayed for her; Maria is her name.
After stopping and praying for Maria, we continued on to Heredia park. We got there and I did get this overwhelming calm feeling. Jordie and Katie made a lap around the park, and Jordie found a spot that we should sit and worship. While we were sitting and worshiping people just kept walking by, and kept asking for the Lord to reveal someone to me to talk to. I got nothing. After praying and worshiping for a while, Jordie got up and went to talk to a man that was washing pots in a fountain. I felt like I needed to follow. We talked to this guy named Jorge, who told us how much he loved Jesus and how great God is. His clothes were dirty and he didn’t appear to be someone that people where attracted to. I asked if we could pray for him and he said yes then immediately started singing us a song in Spanish.
While we were talking to Jorge, two of my teammates were still sitting at the place where we were worshiping and praying and told them that he was sad. After spending some time talking in Spanglish they were able to invite him to church. This man’s name is Edwin, and by the time that I met him he was radiating with joy. It was like God’s love was oozing out of his pores.
Throughout this whole experience, I was really frustrated that I didn’t really hear anything from the Holy Spirit, but it was so awesome to see how he moved my team by speaking to a few of us. Because we were lead to that park and a few of us went to speak to Jorge, we made Jorge feel seen. That also left Erin and Victoria seeming much more approachable for Edwin to approach for prayer and help. We are hoping to see Edwin in church on Sunday, and I know I’ll see him Heaven when I get there.
