“Safe?” said Mr Beaver …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

When I tell people that I am going on the World Race after college, one of the first questions that they have “is it safe?”  Well the truth about it is that we are going to places that have potential to be unsafe.  Yes,  AIM does its best to keep its racers safe and unharmed, but we will not be in a controlled environment.  The world is unsafe.  So I usually respond, its as safe as one can be in third world countries while telling them about Jesus.

However, I usually want to point out that Jesus never called us to be safe.  He also never called us to stay in our comfort zone, but thats another blog for another time.  We have been called to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow HIM, Matthew 16:24.  The last time I checked the cross Jesus is talking about here isn’t the pretty little one that you wear on a necklace on Sunday morning, in fact it is one of the cruelest torture devices that have been used in history.  If you keep on reading the next few verses (25 and 26) in Matthew you will see that we are called to be exact opposite from safe.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

GOD didn’t call us to go therefore where it is safe and make disciples.  HE called us to “Go ye therefore and make disciples of ALL nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 28:19

So lets refer to the quote that I started the blog off with.  It is from one of my favorite series of books.  So many times people aren’t willing to sacrifice safety for the things that are good for them.  GOD does what is best for us and more importantly what is best for HIS kingdom.  So if one person hears the gospel at the expense of me being safe, is it worth it? yes!
