Even though we fundraise like it’s our job, there is more to preparing for the race than just fundraising.  We know our facebook fundraising posts get annoying. However, there are more ways to help us than just giving us money.  We need supporters to also help us prepare spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

1. Ask us how you can be praying for us.

Our lives are chaotic. We need people that will pray with us, over us, and for us.   Most of us preparing to launch on the race are working (sometimes more than 1 job), going to school, actively involved in organizations and our churches, as well as preparing for the race.  At some point in the preparation process we will probably be faced with some crisis like family problems, or not being able to make rent.  We will probably ask you to pray about fundraising because it’s a huge stress for us, but we’ll also probably have a few other things going on in life that we’ll ask you to pray for.

2. Ask us how God is working in our lives.

Maybe we just fasted and had a breakthrough in fundraising or God just showed us how faithful He is in another aspect of our lives.  We have been or are struggling with some aspect of life and we just realized why God put us through that.  The lessons God is teaching us in our walks seem like they are happening at super sonic speeds right now.

3. Ask us what gear we need before training camp

Not only are we fundraising, but we also have to acquire a large amount of gear before training camp.  Most racers have made a registry at REI or a list on amazon.  Ask about the list of things that we still need. If you are an outdoorsy person or frequent traveler feel free to give us advice on gear that you love.  We love hearing what has worked best for others.

4. Write us letters and cards

Writing us letters of encouragement for before we launch is wonderful!  However, we won’t be able to receive mail while we are on the race, so consider writing us cards to read while we are gone.  Letters are great, they are a piece of home and a piece of the people that love us.

5. Remind us over and over again that we will survive a year in the field and that God is going to provide for us.

We go through spots in our lives when the enemy makes us doubt if this is really what we should do, but the devil will also make us doubt that we are even capable.  Tell us you love us, God loves us, God has a plan for us, God will provide for us before we launch and while we are on the field.
