Well Hey There!

I'm Jennie Dugan and I am originally from Georgetown, South Carolina. Its a little port city smack between Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC. I grew up with a great family and close friends. I attended a very small private school where I graduated with 10 people, yes I said 10. Needless to say my school was tight knit , everyone played three sports, and you hung out on the weekends. I left and went no where close to any of my friends- Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. It is a small women's college where I believe I grew to be an independent, open minded, confident woman. I thought after college I heard God calling to work in college ministry at my church. I felt so sure I would be chosen to serve and then I was told by my minister that he didn't think I was quite the leader they were looking for and I was more behind the scenes kind of person. I was crushed. Well God has his own timing. I moved to Charlotte to be near family and I had always wanted to live there. Within a year, my most beloved aunt died of cancer. If I had not moved to Charlotte I wouldn't have gotten to spend so much time with her that last year of her life.

When I moved to Charlotte after college, I immediately found Myers Park Methodist Church. Within a month I was teaching Sunday School and involved in the young adult program. Through leading bible studies, being a confirmation mentor, going on women retreats, and being involved with young adults I have learned and grown so much in my faith. MPUMC has become my home. The thing I love most about my church is its heart for missions. I currently sit on the World Outreach Committee and it is mind blowing to see how we can make a difference by helping, guiding, and providing funds to empower people all over the world to make a difference in their own communities. Ok enough gushing over my church (which I will miss terribly).

Hmmm a little more about me….I have been a preschool teacher for five years at a church where the staff are like family and the directors build you up and help you to be the best person you can be. When I told my director that I was going on the World Race she said "How exciting! You are reaching a life goal!" I've been trying to live abroad or travel more for years. Combining my passion for missions and travel is a dream come true.
