Here in South Africa it feels like home, everyday life. My ministry is just that, everyday life. The community of Middleburg is something else. Its a place where pastors from different denomination meet weekly to pray together for the Church and the community. Its a place where people not only can pray in the work place and in school but they are incorporating their faith into their everyday lives. Its a place where when the community has a need, the churches work together to meet that need.
Some of the ministries I have gotten to be apart of are meeting and praying with pastors and churches; visiting drug addict meetings and praying for them and then having them pray for me; visiting halfway homes for people who are having a rough time; visiting elderly homes and serving communion to them; visiting schools and feeding centers and teaching children songs about Jesus; giving testimonies of what God has been teaching me this year; and singing in the worship band at church.
All of these ministries are things I could be doing in my own community at home. Yes they would look a little different but God has been opeing my eyes to how everyday life can and should be when you are seeking Him and living your life for him. Its not just about going to church and bible studies, yes those are important, but it is about your heart, your attitude, your devotion.
I often have to check myself to make sure I’m doing things for God or to impress others. I am finding though that the more praise and glory I give to God for things in my life, the more I enjoy serving him. The more its about him and not me, the better life can be.
I pray God will prepare my heart to leave this place because I will be leaving friends and family. I have been living my life here. We’ve had fun, served alongside each other, prayed for each other in hard times, encourage one another, and just enjoyed each other’s company. I will miss them so dearly. I have said goodbyes but felt in my heart this is not really a goodbye, I know I will se some of these people again. I know I’ll be back, and I’ll have friends and family waiting. Same for the US when they decide to come Ill be waiting!!
Blessings
Jennie
