Well I’ve been in Guatemala for almost two weeks so I’m half way through my first month. Thats crazy. Some days go fast and some go by so slow. Ultimately its flying by with ministry, trips in to the city, and fun adventures.
This month we are so blessed.
We are living in a beautiful house with a garden backyard. We have our hammocks hung; clothes on the line drying; a comfortable bed; luke warm almost hot shower; kitchen and refrigerador; and wifi.
We have a variety of ministries where we volunteer: Casa de Abuelos (Elderly home), Special Needs Home, Planning and hosting a Youth Rally at a local school, Translating Character and Values curriculum for Nueva Generacion, and teaching in local school the Character and Values curriculum of Nueva Generacion. Nueva Generacion is run by Luis Castillo who is our host. He is hilarious and very good to us. He lives right down the street and is available to us and wants to hang out with us all the time. His wife and children are so sweet too. He takes us to his church and we have worship every Friday night at our house. Arnold plays the guitar and sings songs we all know, in English 🙂
We are just getting settled into our lives here and its crazy to think we will be leaving in two weeks. Its hard to focus on the here and now when you know you are moving on.
I’ve been struggling with this journey of staying present. They tell you at Training Camp stay present and they even set it up so you dont know where you are going to be in the next country so that you will stay present. However my mind still wanders to the what ifs and whens?
Everywhere I turn I’m being told to be in the Word daily and talk to God though out the day. I’m learning that its the only way I am going to make it through the day. I find myself thanking God when the shower is warm and I feel peace and not anxiety.
Blessings,
Jennie
