It’s been awhile since I’ve shared my thoughts on here…3 months to be exact.
The last 3 months have been a little crazy – the Dominican Republic with PVT and Womanistry, then Haiti where I got chicawakaboom and then went back to the Dominican Republic, and then to Puerto Rico where my race has now come to an end.
I go home in 2 days. My family and friends will be asking me all kinds of questions about what I experienced and what I learned in the past 11 months. Here’s a few things…
– Showering is optional if you didn’t get that sweaty during the day, but if you have the chance to shower in a waterfall you should take it – even if it is freezing cold!
– It gets cold in the Dominican Republic – don’t send your sleeping bag home like I did!
– Sometimes the race sucks and you don’t want to be there – perseverance is hard but it’s necessary to get you through the bad days so you can experience the good ones.
– Assembly lines are key when passing rocks and concrete to build a walkway.
– Chikungunya is no joke – take some serious time to rest and build your strength up.
– Love will always be greater than any language barrier, don’t let the fact that you can’t communicate in the same language stop you from spending time with someone – a hug means the same thing all over the world.
– Sometimes you show up to bless a contact and they end up blessing you more than you every could have imagined.
– Don’t forget to minister to your team and yourself, it’s one of your greatest ministries on the race – pray for one another, wash each others feet and always worship together.
– Photoshoots are a great thing to do for team time.
– You get used to that musty smell that your clothes, your pack and basically all of your stuff has.
– Jesus is always working to make our paths straight, even if we don’t realize He’s there. Take rest in the Lord and let Him fight for you, He will always win.
God did a whole lot more over the past 3 months in the Caribbean and I’m still sorting through all of it to make sure I learn the lessons He is teaching me. Stay tuned for more…
All my love
– J
