Two weeks ago, I found myself at the same airports, walking the same streets, sitting at the same bus stations, staying at the same places and traveling the same roads as I did a year ago. It was weird. It was different. It was good. This time, I was “alone.” I was not surrounded by 51 other Racers. It was me, and a new friend, Vanessa, who would be joining two other women (Kim and Melinda) on an opportunity to help lay a new foundation, a foundation of prayer in Haiti.

I was eager to meet my team. I already knew Kim, as she was on my squad and team this past year on the Race. I met Vanessa the night before we all met up in the Dominican Republic, as I stayed at her house after flying to Atlanta from Oklahoma. I ended up being able to switch my later flight on our way to the DR to be on her flights, which was an answer to prayer. Now, it was just a matter of meeting our fearless leader, Melinda – which had to wait until the Santo Domingo airport!

It was a long day of travel to Santo Domingo and I think we were all ready for bed before we even left the airport late that afternoon. I may have been in the same DR airport, but it was different. It’s changes were evident. It was a memory of the past, and now a beginning of new memories. The intercessor team was together at last. Smaller than expected, but just as God had planned. After a few weeks of continuous e-mails, the time had come. We were in the DR. A few days away from crossing the border into Haiti.

I was blessed. We may be a small team of four, but we are fierce.
We may be women, but there was power in our words. Our hearts were big.
Our faith was strong. We were excited for what was to come. It was
unknown to us where we would be and what we would be doing. We knew we
would be praying, but what else was ahead? What about hope? Spiritual
warfare? Fear? Faith? We had “ideas” but once again realized that
things always change, as we headed out a day early to the DR and a day
earlier from YWAM than expected, which brought us to the same hotel in
San Juan that I was at during Launch last year.

Seeing the same faces at YWAM and in San Juan was an encouragement. We
even ran into someone we know in Jimani while getting water, before
crossing into Haiti. God’s perfect and divine appointments – so needed
and such a blessing. The time was here. It was familiar, as I had “experienced” it a year ago, yet I never could have prepared
myself for what we saw physically or felt spiritually this time
around…it wasn’t the same!
