I remember it clearly. It was August 2008. My first Training Camp for the World Race with AIM (Adventures in Missions). I had no idea what to expect. Here I was, a Canadian, entering a “world” that is new and adventurous, with Americans surrounding me. Only 3 other Canadians were there with me, but I wasn’t going to let it stop me from being me…
Throughout those intense 10 days, God started something in my heart. He led me to Seth, where I asked him whether a Canadian branch of AIM had ever
bee considered. It got my heart and my heart spinning as we talked briefly…I never mentioned it to anyone and proceeded on my way – ending up back at a second Training camp in October. A new group of people. A new race. The same mission.
As I was on the field, my cousin, Chris Cave, began to get interested in the Race, applied and got accepted. My Aunt put a “bug” in my ear and basically said that I’d come home and bring AIM to Canada. I chuckled, and moved on. Little did I know what all was taking place.
A few months later, I was in Romania, at conference, where it was a final “kick” to end the Race strong, loud and proud! We had done a few sessions on Kingdom dreams. We had time to worship and pray and meet people from other Squads and really just pour out and bless each other, as well as be blessed in return. I’ll never forget talking to the Canadian Racers on the field,
hearing that we are all in the same boat – feeling the lack of financial support (due to not being able to get tax deductable receipts) and that something needs to be done about it. I remember walking back up to Seth one night during worship, asking him once again about AIM Canada – to my surprise, he remembered me and that I had brought it up to him before. Reason for it not happening: they need someone/people to start it. The vision has been there, yet the timing wasn’t right. I smiled and walked away.
As I turned around, my friend and squad mate, Melissa Betz, who has been with me since the FIRST training camp, walked up to me and gave me a hug. Without saying a word, she said “I’m in.” I didn’t know what to say. We just looked at each other and couldn’t believe what was happening. The spirit of the Lord was upon us, and we were radiant. We KNEW that something BIG was before us and that we were in the hands of the LORD! We went up to Seth, with Andrew Shearman overhearing, and got a blessing and prayer from them to walk in our Kingdom Dream(s)! What a moment…we were gushing!
, it will encourage and help jump start more Canadians to join the World Race (or other AIM programs), mobilizing Canadian youth to bring Kingdom around the world, as well as make it “easier” to be Canadian before, during and after the Race – application, finances, gear, insurance, support raising, community living etc. I have seen this dream start small and expand within the last year. Once again, dreaming with God in control goes beyond what we can ever see or believe. This is just the beginning of the big picture and what is ahead.
