…or so the saying goes. We have arrived in Phnom Penh, on our way to Bangkok, where we will be meeting up with the rest of our Squad and heading to Koh Samet…for debrief! So excited to see everyone, yet it was an extremely hard morning, saying good-bye to our friends in Vietnam!
This morning, we managed to arrive over an hour early at the bus stop, which was a blessing, as a half a dozen of our friends from this past month came to hang out with us before we boarded the bus. It was so great to see them one last time before departing a Country that I hold dear to my heart – it was hard to get on the bus…however, a blessing was that there was only going to be 9 people on a 45 passenger bus, so we were able to spread out…and sleep, or at least attempt to!
We had an adventure before even leaving HCMC, as we had the bus stop at an ATM so we could get money out for Visa’s. Yes, we like to make things interesting on our travel days…keep the excitement going. Then to transfer the currency numerous times in order to get Cambodian visas…it was quite the ordeal that we have many memories to laugh and share about!
That was just the beginning of our first of two travel days. We had no problems crossing the Vietnam/Cambodia border…carted our luggage and went on and off the bus a few times, but it was harmless and a speedy process – Praise the Lord!
A new adventure came when we were arriving in Phnom Penh…we heard the thunder and saw the lightening. Downpour. We were still on the bus. It didn’t let up, but rained even harder. We quickly brought our luggage inside as we watched the streets FLOOD with rain water…covering the roads and rising above the sidewalks! Such a difference from the heat that we experienced a short month ago!
Needless to say, through it all – rain or shine, early mornings and lengthy bus rides, border crossing and saying farewell to one Country, reuniting with another, and experiencing a new one – we are on our way to a new month, a new Country and a new experience!
As for what next month, May, brings, my team will be in Thailand (as the other teams depart to various Countries for their ATL month). We will be working at S.H.E ministries in Phuket. This is a ministry that ministers to the women and young girls in the bar – prostitutes – in need of true love, acceptance and friendship. We will be building relationships with women, and doing whatever else the Lord calls us to. For more information on S.H.E ministries, the work they do, and where we will be, check out their website www.shethailand.org
