Another event to cross off the bucket list; I survived a natural disaster! Last night I experienced the unsettling drop of my stomach right before getting some shut eye. The 8.4 magnitude earthquake that devastated parts of Mexico on the border of Guatemala made it to us with the whole city tremble. I had just went upstairs to our new dwelling place when the shaking started…first the door rattling, which I thought “great our door is going to rattle with each passing car,” but the shaking stayed persistent and then the floor started moving under my feet and the chandelier light started swaying. I thought I was loosing my mind until my teammates started waking up alarmed. I ran downstairs with the whole building rhythmically vibrating still to see others up with an alarmed expression. We went outside and still felt the street swaying and the power lines mysteriously rocking back and forth while the air was silent and still. This lasted a few minutes from the aftershocks but then ceased and the night returned to complete stillness. After saying a prayer for safety and protection for everyone involved we went back to our night rituals.
Wow God is powerful, he makes the Earth tremble with His might. His power is unfathomable yet He loves us and is our gentle Father. He is my protector and I have nothing to fear. The little terremotto (earthquake) is nothing compared to His strength and the cool thing is that He is on my side 🙂
“Be strong in the Lord and His mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10
Let’s do this Guatemala, let’s shake up our world a bit and get uneasy. That is where God shows up and reveals His life-saving truth!
“…the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.”
1 Corinthians 1:25
