In order to be able to go on the World Race, each Racer must raise a large sum of money (the specific amount varies with each race). This task immediately seems so overwhelming. For me in particular I must race just shy of $19,000. My first thoughts when being presented with this task is like most, what odd jobs can I do, what areas of my life can I be cutting costs? How much can I make in this month? How much do I need for other aspects of the trip, my pack, tent, sleeping bag? A mountain of an endeavor, but the one thing I was missing in these thoughts is my God. My immediate response was to start working on how I can provide this. But this is a God sized dream and I know I will get myself nowhere; I need to call on the power of the Lord to help me. Which I did I prayed God this is so overwhelming to me and I know that I cannot do this but through your will and power, please allow me to raise the money needed to go.
I felt complete peace about this monstrous amount of money after this. Part of my efforts in fundraising was throwing a garage sale to sell items I no longer need. As I was sitting there on the first day a few hours in I began to get discouraged, I had only earned $1.50. God, don’t you know that although yes that will make a difference it’s still way off from $19,000. In the same moment that I was questioning the Lord, I realized I had not prayed that this garage sale would be profitable. I took a moment to pray, and asked God if just that toaster oven would sell, I would feel like this was not all a waste. Less than five minutes later a woman walked in and not only did she purchase the toaster oven but she bought $40 worth of stuff! How good is our God?? Is He a God that moves mountains yes! But He also moves your toaster oven haha. At times I feel we have no problem giving God our mountains because it’s clearly a task that is too much for us to accomplish ourselves. We then try to keep our toaster ovens, we don’t invite God into our everyday lives. Our Heavenly Father wants to have every part of our lives and to provide our every need but we first have to give it to Him, we have to invite Him to have lay our every issue at the altar. So here’s to remembering to give God my ant hills, mole hills, mountains and my world. I can’t wait to see what God can do with my life.
