Training camp was in Gainsville, Georgia where you never stop sweating and the bugs never stop bitting. Training camp was spiritually, mentally and physically challenging for all of us!
What I quickly learned was that training camp is not church camp. Training camp is 10 days of bonding, learning, processing, praying, community and physical exercise. We had morning worship, sessions through out the day and then at night we would have a field scenario, oh and of course breakfast lunch and dinner! Meals were great because you never knew what would be served and it was always family style.
Adventures in Missions has done a wonderful job of preparing my squad for the journey ahead, by teaching us how to do ministry and how to approach many situations. A field scenario which became a very common thing is a situation we may face while out in the field. Our first scenario we were “traveling” to Asia and the airlines had lost half of our squads luggage! Which meant half of us, including myself, were without a tent, sleeping bag, toiletries and whatever else was in our pack. Lucky for me I had packed my toothbrush and clean under wear in my day pack! Always be prepared. The other half of our squad quickly partnered up and shared their belongings. It wasn’t until the next night that the airline “found” our luggage. The week continued with many different scenarios. I can’t share them all because what if your a future racer?! You won’t have any surprises once you get there!:)
My squad is 40 people and we have split up into 6 teams. What this means is that the whole squad travels together to each country. Once we arrive our squad splits into our teams and are placed in different host homes and ministries. During camp we did many team building exercises before we were placed in our official teams, which is a good thing because we got to see who worked best with who and how we worked as a team.
I am proud to announce my team … The River Jumpers (a story for a different day)!
Clayton Manche, Ethan Pugh, Tara Santi, Brady Bortka, Rachael Robinson and Ryann McDowell!
*Please pray for them and read their blogs! They are wild, crazy and love Jesus. God knew that if we had to travel the world and be the hands and feet we would have to be surrounded by each other.
Ephesians 4:1-16
Is encouraging and I found a lot of peace reading it.
