As Christians we all have bible verses we rehearse, write down and reread. Philippians 4:6-9 is one of mine.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me- everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the peace of God will be with you.”
Each time I read this I take away a different lesson or learn a new area of focus. Today when I read this it was Fix. Fixated is to have an obsession on a specific thing. Some people Fix their life around work, physical fitness, people, body image, and many other obsessions. Sometimes what we obsess over isn’t necessarily a ‘bad’ thing but can be consuming and to much of anything cannot be good right? But this passage tells us to fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Imagine how if our thoughts were fixed on these how our actions and words would reflect honor, purity, love and admire but most importantly the peace of God.
When I think of the word fixated I also think of focus and how if I focused on what was good in my thoughts I could project what is good through actions. This can be difficult and requires us to intentionally focus. Then we must practice this focus to accomplish a habit of fixed thoughts! This sounds simple and wonderful but is very trying when there are a million and two things happening in our lives. Today I am challenging myself and even you, if you accept, to fix your thoughts and have the peace of God with you.
