DO SOMETHING
Keta, a friend of mine, told me that all we need to do is something. We will never be able to change the whole world but when we do what we can something will change. Waiting for the means and the perfect time to do something will prolong the change you could have made.
Maggie, Annie, Anna and I tagged along with Somebody Cares Ministry last week, the ministry my home church partners with. Going back for the third time to see what God has done within their community and to visit with my friends in Chikzalire. There are two interns working with SCM, Annie and Summer, they are college students going to school for nutrition. What I saw them do in the village was inspiring. They had come to the community to give what they had, KNOWLEDGE!
Summer was teaching a group how to build a hand washing station to encourage daily hygiene because washing your hands with clean water and soap can make a world of a difference to the health of people with HIV. Many people in Malawi have HIV and medication isn’t always accessible, when it is they need to be eating well and staying healthy. This simple tool of basic hygiene can change lives.
Annie was teaching a cooking demonstration with new moms and women of the community. Cooking is a daily task that we don’t really think twice about or about the nutrition we are receiving from our foods. Annie was teaching the women how to cook fish, tomatoes and greens the right way for them to get the proper amount of nutrients. Aside from the cooking she was explaining alternate food choices for fats, proteins and vitamins.
These two young people are taking what they have and giving it to people, helping people and serving them with what God has given them. What has God given you?
I have been reading a Proverb a day, so much wisdom let me tell you! But this verse says it very simply…
Proverbs 11:24
Give freely and become more wealthy;
be stingy and loose everything
Nothing we have is truly ours and what we do have was meant for us to give away and share with those around us. God has been teaching me this year to give what I have. Sometimes that means money other times it means my time. I don’t know about you but I want to be wealthy! Wealthy in the way of being full of Gods love, mercy, grace, redemption and blessings. I want to be a hard worker, a faithful servant, a truthful woman, teachable and full of common sense. I want to leave behind the simple life and truly live.
Give freely, don’t be stingy.
