Where to begin. The last few days have been incredible, exhausting, and insane. We arrived in Gaborone, Botswana on Tuesday and hit the ground running, hard. This month for my squad is “Ask The Lord (ATL)” month, so each team was given the challenge to ask the Lord where to go (Namibia or Botswana), who to work with, and what to do. Our ATL month requires a bit of a backstory…
In you remember, Malaysia was Unsung Heroes month for my team. We went to a church called Kingdomcity Kuala Lumpur and fell in love with its mission, purpose, and people. It felt like family instantly. Since we were new to the church, we went to the VIP area and met a lovely girl named Rhoda, who was from Botswana. We also met her friend Abel, who we pretty much refer to daily when we quote him saying, “no pressure on you, only pressure on the Holy Spirit”. If you can’t tell, these two were amazing, unforgettable, and so kind. Kingdomcity meant a lot to us that month; it was the first english-speaking church we’d been to in 4 months, the sermons were for filling, and the people so inviting. Their slogan “feels like home” was true to their word. As we were leaving KL to head to a different city, Abel gave us the contact information for his good friend, Matthews, who did street ministry in Gaborone in case we happened to be there for month 10. Mel put the info in her journal, and we moved on to a different city.
Fast forward to the beginning of month 8, Cambodia. We were in Phnom Penh for Easter weekend because at the last minute, our host couldn’t have us come until a few days later. We remembered there was a Kingdomcity in Phnom Penh, so we got the address and went there for Easter. It was so special. It was the complete opposite of Kuala Lumpur (a megachurch with thousands of people in its own building) to the new church in Phnom Penh that had 15 people in a house. It was such a blessing to spend Easter with them, and to talk and fellowship with the pastor.
Fast forward to month 10, and here we are in Gaborone, Botswana, working with Matthews and his team. In the time we met Abel to now, they started the plans for Kingdomcity Botswana, and we got to be here for their very first Sunday service. This past week we worked with the Kingdomcity staff doing outreach, hospitable ministry, went to the unemployment office, and schools. We’ve prayed for people, seen healings, worshipped together, did door to door evangelism, had parties with hundreds of pancakes, danced, sang, laughed, and loved. God works in such cool ways. We never could have known that randomly going to church one Sunday in month 5 would lead us to our ministry for month 10. The people of Kingdomcity are so passionate, and it’s been such a blessing to work alongside them so far. Because we were here for the first Sunday, the other teams in Gaborone were able to join us, and there were over 50 adults and 25 children. What an epic first service to have as a church! Please keep Kingdomcity Gaborone in your prayers as this new church plant is getting its feet planted. I can guarantee you this church will bring the kingdom to the area its in. We already have plans to go into the bars down the street from the church this week, do more door to door evangelism, do some more street ministry, and love people like crazy. Check out my next blog for some cool stories from this past week and what we’ve specifically been doing with KC Gaborone!
God bless,
Jenna
