ok, so….

I'm sitting at the table after lunch, just hanging out, listening to Percy and Aaron have a conversation in Spanish, which I of course understand nothing of, when Vagnur approaches and asks Percy something. Percy proceeds to point to me and says "Vamos." Ummm… ok. I get up and follow Vagnur, Cindy, and another woman to the truck. As we get in, Rikki sees me and asks where I'm going. No idea. We drive about a minute down the road, get out and approach a doorway. After a brief conversation, the woman of the house brings Vagnur some boots. He hands them to me to put on, puts on his own, and Cindy is already wearing some. We pile back in the truck and drive the opposite direction for about 10 minutes, down a dirt and rock road, and finally stop next to a ramshackle wooden house. The other random woman with us leads us to the barbed wire fence on the other side of the road. She moves a piece of it aside and the four of us proceed down a small, thin, muddy embankment to a tree where another pair of boots are chilling. She puts them on and then begins to lead us through what turns out to be about a half mile hike through mudd as deep as your knees. After about the third time I get stuck, she comes over and grabs my wrist and starts leading me. Weird that she's holding my wrist as opposed to my hand. Not really sure what to do with my hand now, so it's just kinda hanging there. And the path isn't really made for two people side by side. not sure how much this is helping, but whatever, I go with it. So one rickety wood bridge later (and by wood bridge, I mean a piece of wood over a huge ditch) and some serious muddy hill climbing and we reach a house tucked up all snug in the jungle.

The dogs set to barking like we're there to steal something, cause let's face it, what else have they been doing all day? This is probably the most excitment they've had since they chased the chickens before breakfast. What are we doing here, you may ask? The woman who lives at the house says a few words to Vagnur and then hands him this crazy long stick (which is really as tall as a tree) with a blade on the end. Vagnur then walks over to a tree and starts shoving the pointy blade part of the stick up into the branches. What happens next? Well, a big round, apparently Coconut (as I will later find out) comes falling out, rolls down the hill, and smack into my ankle. OWW!! That's gonna bruise! Of course, everyone laughs at me. Cause it's funny that the gringo just stood there and watched as the coconut came tumbling toward her. Vagnur cuts down some more coconuts and then he pulls out a machette (like, seriously, a rusty, i'm hacking down foliage in the jungle, machette) and starts wacking at a coconut. He opens it up and drinks some of the "water" and hands it to me. I take a sip and he laughs. He demonstrates chugging. yeah, umm, no. i continue to delecately sip my coconut as he laughs. the water is gone, so he hacks at it some more and breaks it open. it tastes pretty good. Not as sweet as coconut you eat back home, but good all the same. We chill, eat our coconuts, swing on hammocks, and eat this weird marshmellowy type substance out of stalks they pulled from the ground (really chewie and strange, don't know the name of it). There are some puppies rolling around and I play with them (i know, i know… i'm not suppose to play with animals in 3rd world countries) and feed them some of my coconut.

It's time to go back. Once more into the abyss (and by abyss, i mean of course, the crazy muddy pit they call a path). This time the lady lets me walk by myself, thank goodness. Apparently when my hands are empty I'm incapable of walking through mudd, but when I have two coconuts tucked under my arms, I'm less likely to fall face first. right. so we hike back with about 10 coconuts between us, and arrive at the car about 30 min later. After depositing the coconuts in the truck bed, we head back to the mudd path. Are we going back for more? Nope. Vagnur takes a right off the path and leads us to a creak where he proceeds to jump in fully clothed. Ok. well, i'm not doin' that, but I have boots on so I walk in to my knees and splash some on my face. ahh, lovely. refreshed, we head back to town (well, as much as you can call a 1/4 mile strip of buildings in the middle of the jungle a town) and arrive in time for dinner.
