Some people do rain dances when they need rain. Well, I did my own type of rain dance the other day…I prayed.
I love rain. I actually love most forms of precipitation. I also don’t enjoy being hot. Living in tents in Haiti is hot. The only time it’s “cool” is from about 2-7am which isn’t very helpful considering I go to bed before 9:30pm every night and wake up at about 5:45am.
Sunday night we were riding back from church and I was extremely hot so I decided to pray for rain. Partly because I knew it would make me happy and partly because it would cool things down. Well, God answered my prayer! He really answered it…

My teammate Sarah and I during the rainstorm
It started down pouring at about 8:45pm and didn’t let up at all until after 11pm. Let’s just say some people’s tents did not take it well. Quite a few tents flooded and eventually we all ended up moving our tents under or near the Shacoon (our pavilion). Some people were not very happy, but I had a blast. We all got soaked, it cooled down, and I got to sleep in my tent (which did not get flooded!) listening to the rain.
The aftermath the next day was not the most enjoyable, but fortunately it was on our day off. There were backpacks, daypacks, and tents randomly dispersed throughout the Shacoon and compound. Eventually, tents and clothes dried and things went back to the way they were before I did my rain dance.
“He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’”
Job 37:6
