This month my team is in Xai-Xai, Mozambique working with a ministry couple: Jason and Rachel Helm. They have lived here for the past seven years, have two wonderful kids and have such a great ministry. They teach at a bible school, run a farm that makes food for the people at the bible school, train locals to do Reach 4 Life, lead bible studies, among many other things. For our time here we get to help them out with all parts of their ministry.
The first day we were visiting the farm and they asked us if we wanted to buy some tangerines. Then they said they cost 1 met/tangerine. That means we could buy 27 tangerines for about a dollar. I think that was a rhetorical question. We said we wanted 50 tangerines so one of the workers went and picked 50 fresh tangerines for us. Wonderful. It’s been less than a week and we already bought our next 50…

But the best part about buying from their farm is that the money goes to help the bible school. Part of the money I worked to raise goes to my food for the year. This month a lot of my food money is going to this farm that supports the bible school. So it’s like my supporters are supporting this school as well. I think that is wonderful.
So far this month, we have helped out on the farm and helped them move and spread dirt and manure on their yard so they can start planting grass. Ben has been working on their ministry website which he seems to love. The women get to go to a women’s bible study every week and on Sunday nights we have a get together/devotion time with some of the other local missionaries. On top of all of that, I got to preach at church last Sunday! In case you were wondering, it went really well.
Later on this month we will get to help teach English class and play with kids at the bible school! So far this has been my favorite month with Haiti as a close second. It’s so great having amazing contacts who want to invest in our lives as well as the live of the people around them. It also doesn’t hurt that this place is absolutely gorgeous, not to mention we have an amazing view of the ocean.
