Yesterday we went on a treasure hunt. For people.
The goal was to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in whatever way He wanted to show love to His most special treasures. We split up into teams of 2 or 3 to go out. I was with dani and Becca. First, we spent time in prayer asking the Lord to reveal to us what we should do, where we should go, or any directions we should follow. Then we came back together to discuss what the Holy Spirit had told us.
Some of the things dani heard the Lord say were: left, downhill, and a bridge. I had a vision of a gate with ivy type leaves around it and had jotted down a little sketch of it in my journal. And, Becca had the story in the bible of Rebekah. In the story, Isaacs servant is sent out to find a wife for him and the sign of who it should be is whoever gives him water. When the servant is at the well, Rebekah comes out and gives him water but also goes above and beyond and waters all 10 of his camels. In this way, the servant knows she is the one. So, Becca concluded that the person were supposed to meet would give us something to drink for free. Water is never usually free here even at restaurants and we don’t know anyone, so I was curious how this would happen.
With those things in mind we hit the streets..we took a left and there was a downhill. Shortly after that, we crossed a bridge. So far so good it seemed, so we kept on walking. At one point, I lagged behind for a minute to pray for a woman and little girl. As I caught back up with them I heard “Jenna, there’s the gate”. Whoa, there it was. I could feel my heart racing with anticipation. It was also on the left and had a downhill leading to it.
We weren’t sure what to do since there was nobody nearby. So, like any polite Christian would, we peeked in and then gave the knob a twist and let ourselves in. We were greeted by a cute puppy and a woman who saw us and then went back inside. For a minute, I was nervous that we were in the doghouse for being on their property. But then, another woman came out and kindly introduced herself. We quickly discovered she is a believer and that they actually host other teams similar to ours in their home. Did I mention, we are in Nepal where the rate of Christianity is like 1%? Not only that, but minutes into our conversation what might arrive but a tray of tea and drum-roll please… cheesecake. Wow, God. She is our “Rebekah”. She explained how she had made it that morning and didn’t know what she was going to do with it. It was so evident that we were right where the Lord wanted us to be as all three of our visions came to a beautiful climax in that moment. I could scarcely contain the excitement welling up inside of me over Gods goodness and faithfulness.
We had the privilege of hearing about her story, her husband and 3 daughters our age, and her heart for discipleship in Nepal. All while sipping tea on a beautiful terrace with the little dog named twix. Before leaving, we got to pray for her and write down requests to keep in prayer as well as exchange contact information. The whole experience was like a shot of espresso for a groggy soul.
I love how the Holy Spirit worked through each of us to piece together the treasure map to find the treasure, this lovely woman. He delights in personally speaking to and encouraging each one of us and this experience was such tangible evidence of that reality.
…”The LORD your God has chosen you to be His own special treasure.” -Deut.7:6
