Life after the Coast Guard!  What will I do without a J-O-B!?

Well we leave Alaska December 11th, so I only have  3 months to occupy myself and I have plenty to do.

Jenn and I will be headed to World Race training camp October 12th-20th and then I get a few days to hangout in Seattle before I go to Russia!  I will leave for Russia October 23rd with a group of men from ACF church.  We will do English camps and work with our missionaries there until November 1st.  I’m super excited to do ministry with the men of our church before moving away.  I pray this trip to Russia will grow hearts for missions and raise up pray warriors for our World Race.

With the time I am in Alaska I’ll be at our small group bible study on Wednesday nights, Celebrate Recovery Friday nights, and church on Sundays (of course).  I will feed the homeless through Urban Mission, lead a team of greeters on Sunday mornings, and continue to grow in fellowship and community with those around us.  I hope to start up Manday Monday, getting guys together to get real and find others to be accountable with, and open our home up to many more people.  All while continuing to raise another $20,000 for the World Race!!!

Here are the things that I want to focus on as a man and more importantly as a man of God:

  • As the family leader, model humility, honesty, repentance, service, study, and worship.  My life preaches at least as loudly as my words, so teach and model humble godliness by the grace of God.
  • Read the Bible by myself and with my family so they are encouraged to read on their own.
  • Read Christian books, including Christian biographies.
  • Read books with my wife, including the bible, and discuss what we are learning.
  • Listen to sermons and worship music in the car and other places I can better take advantage of my time.
  • Pray with and for my family everyday

  • Realize I’m not God.  I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
  • Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.
  • Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
  • Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.
  • Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.
  • Evaluate all my relationships.  Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.
  • Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer indorder to know God and his will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.
  • Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
