Wet. From the time I wake up in the morning, to the time I go to bed to the time I wake up again I am wet. When I am not wet I am sticky. Everything sticks to me, particularly dirt. When I rub my hand over my arm the dust clumps together and forms little dirt rolls on my skin.
Yes, there are certainly times my flesh hates India. But my heart? My heart loves it.
Every afternoon pastor Edison takes us to a new village, where we spend a couple of hours going door to door praying for people. Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike. They invite us into their homes, tell us about their lives, and then we get to lay hands on them and pray. Those of you who know me know that this is pretty much my favorite thing to do in the whole world. I love to pray, so I feel like God has given me a big gift by making that the focus of ministry my first month.
After we’re done, we’re served supper. On our first night of ministry it seemed like half of the women in the village were preparing food for us. We’re getting a lot to eat here! The best part of the meal was when the kids who had been following us around all day gave us an impromptu concert. The electricity was off for the time being, but the stars were out, and it was most definitely one of those moments that made me think, “how is this possibly my life?”
Then it’s time for the evening service. Each night a different member of my team preaches a sermon. Then we get to pray for the people again. God is definitely doing big things here in India!
There are times when I’m sitting with the people or praying for them that my heart feels so at home, like this is what it was created to do.
Things you can pray for:
The people we meet, that they would see Jesus as their one true savior. There are many gods here, so sometimes people will accept Jesus but keep worshiping their other gods as well.
Health. The heat here is hard for many of us, and the air is very polluted which has been a big struggle for me. But God is good and sent some rain today to cool things down and clean things up, so keep praying for that.
Boldness!
Words! Writing sermons freaks me out. Pray that God would tell me what to say and that I would hear and be obedient.
Pray that God would be glorified during our time in India!
