There is a Hindu shrine outside my bedroom door.
File that one under “sentences I never thought I would say.”
This month my team and I are in Malaysia. Our contacts live in a nearby town where they run an English center. We are in a predominately Muslim area, so they can’t openly preach the Gospel. Instead, they preach through the way they live. The prayers they pray for the children in the classes and the things they declare over their city are changing their community. Our contacts told us several stories of how God is working here and how lives are being changed even though His name isn’t being spoken out loud. People here recognize something different in our contacts…and they want it.
Several months ago a Hindu man from the town we are in now came to our contacts and asked them to start an English center in his community. Learning English is important here and helps people get better jobs. But they also recognize that it’s not just English being taught at the center. Our contacts spend a lot of time teaching about good character as well. This Hindu man offered our contacts a space for the classes, and two rooms in his home for teams to stay.
And that’s how I ended up living with a Hindu family in a predominately Muslim area while on a Christian mission trip. It’s great! So many opportunities to be a light to the community this month and to show the love of Christ in us and through us! So many opportunities to pray for this town and the people we are interacting with!
Please join with me in praying for Kuala Lipis and the English Center here. Please pray that the Gospel is heard loud and clear even though we aren’t saying a word. Please pray for our host family, that they would desire the light that is in my team and I.
I am probably more excited for this month than any month on the race so far.
Our contacts say they love to declare Isaiah 60 over this area. They say deep darkness has been lighted up because of Christ in me. Because of Christ in us.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.”
(vs. 1-2)
Arise, shine, Malaysia, for your light has come!
