I was listening to one of my favorite songs since Guatemala called I Will Follow by Jon Guerra. One of the first lyrics says “When the boat is tossed upon the waves, when I wonder if you’ll keep me safe; even in the storms I’ll follow you” and it reminded me of the story in Matthew 8:23 when the disciples were on a boat with a sleeping Jesus.
To sum it up: without warning a massive storm was out on the lake they were sailing in. The disciples were terrified; so much so they believed they were going to drown…..with. Jesus. on. board. We look back on it and think “Oh silly disciples, of course the boat won’t go down with Jesus on it, how couldn’t you have seen that?” But, let’s look at this from our lives.
So often in life, we find ourselves in scary situations. Financial trouble, family or relationship issues, wondering if we are safe. My friends, Jesus is in the boat with us. Even more so, we have the Holy Spirit INSIDE of us; something the disciples didn’t even have when they were with Jesus!!!
What makes us think Jesus isn’t in the boat with us?? What makes us think we are going to sink in our storm? We have Jesus right beside us, full of peace, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.
Seriously. Ask yourself, ask the Holy Helper what inside of you made you think you are not safe when a storm hits.
