Last month in India was nuts. Our team, re-bound, did a total of 40 different ministries throughout the month. We struggled to find time to rest, time to breathe, and time to seek God. By the end of the month we were all exhausted and worn out. All of us were praying that Nepal's ministry would not be the same. We needed a recharge; we needed time to be still.
When we first heard about our ministry with Haripur Prashansa Academy in southern Nepal we didn't see much hope with this. We were told that our ministry would be teaching students from the neighboring villages. To us, it sounded like we would be in the classroom every day assisting the teachers with their teaching techniques. It didn't seem like God was going to answer our prayer for rest.
After a 10 hour public bus ride to the village we settled into our rooms and had a meeting with the headmaster of the school, Subash. He began to explain to us what he would like our help with throughout the month. Lesson plan templates, a yearly activity plan, help with the website and outreach for the school, teacher trainings, and financial organizing. (Pause) We were confused. Nowhere did he mention teaching. We made it a point to specifically ask him about teaching within the classroom and he said if we wanted to we could, but the 5 things he assigned to us would be top priority while we were there.
God did answer our prayers.
Throughout our month in Nepal we did get all of those 5 things done and much more. Some days we did decide to teach and others we spent focusing our time on each other and in the word. God knew exactly what we needed and he taught us how to be still and know that He is God. He taught us that ministry doesn't have to be hectic, intense, and go go go. Sometimes ministry is just living, resting, and being.
One of my favorite things I got to do for the school this month was make a promotional video to put on their website and Facebook page. With the help of my leader, Hyphen, we put together a short clip that we feel gives an overview of what Haripur Prashansa Academy is and has to offer. Enjoy!
