Hello Kid's Creek!
I will be going to Thailand in October. I am writing you early because I do not know if I will have internet service while in China. I will be there on Tuesday!
I hear Thailand is the "Land of Smiles". I'm so happy because I love smiling. It's my favorite.
I understand that when a Thai smiles, he might not mean that his is happy. It could mean many things! Here is the list of Thai smiles that I will try to practice so I know what people are thinking:D
| Type | When To Use |

The smile of hopelessness. The situation is so bleak, you've got nothing better to do but offer a pathetic smile. |

The polite smile. You are bored to tears with your company, yet you must smile. |

The nervous sorry smile. You accidently hurt someone and out of fear you smile to make it right. |
![]() |
The forced smile. You are not happy with what just happened, yet you smile. |
![]() |
The smile of embarrassment. Smile to get past embarrassing situations. |
![]() |
The hidden smile. You want to smile but it's inappropriate to do so. |
![]() |
The victory smile. When you win the game. |
![]() |
The admiration smile. When someone did a good job and you are proud of them. |
![]() |
The happy smile. The smile you expect to see on someone's face in light of good news. |
|
The evil smile. How someone would smile if they pulled off something rotten. |
![]() |
The attitude smile. When you have the attitude you're right and everyone else is wrong. |
![]() |
The mocking smile. When you are making light of someone. |

The sad smile. You're feeling tremendously sad but must cover it up. |
I need to practice for sure! Now you try to see if you could cut it in the "Land of Smiles"!
Thai Snack Time

Yes, that is what you think it is. Ice cream on a hot dog bun! I hope I get to try this, and if I don't, I'll be buying some buns when I get home to go with my ice cream. Maybe your family will be so adventurous to try this for a late night snack. If you do, send me a picture. I want to see it!
Here is something you can pray for the country of Thailand. Thailand is 95% Buddhist. That's most of the people that live there!
How is Buddhism different from other religions?
Buddhism is different because it does not believe in a relationship between people and God. In fact, in Buddhism there is no creator God. They believe that you follow a cycle of birth, death, life and rebirth. This keeps going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. Oh man!
They believe in following the teachings of Buddha. Perhaps you've seen a golden Buddha statue when you went into a Chinese restaurant.
There is little hope where there is no God and an endless cycle of what the Buddhists believe is suffering and pain. Jesus Christ came to bring hope and salvation and to have a relationship with us! He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Pray for the Gospel to be spread and to bring hope and light in a dark world.
Next stop: Cambodia!
